Status: Sold

A signed giclée on paper by Kamran Khavarani (Iranian-American, b. 1941), the architect and painter credited by UCLA art historian Albert Boime as the founder of "Abstract Romanticism." Trained in the classical tradition and later transformed by the mystical poetry of the thirteenth-century Persian poet Rumi, Khavarani developed a lyrical abstract idiom of sweeping, luminous color. His work has been recognized by the Library of Congress and noted in the Congressional Record. This composition is a fine example of his signature manner — broad, rippling gestures move across the surface in brilliant cobalt and sapphire blues, deepened by passages of teal and black, evoking the oceanic and cosmic metaphors at the heart of his vision. The fluid energy of the brushwork suggests water and atmosphere in constant motion, drawing the viewer into a contemplative, immersive space. Signed in gold script at the lower right. Beautifully presented in a custom frame with a clean blue-and-white mat under glass, ready to hang. A refined work by a recognized contemporary artist with an established exhibition and institutional history, well suited to a collector of abstract art or a contemporary interior. 36 x 27"
