Status: Sold
A spectacular example of 19th-century Bohemian decorative glass artistry, this magnificent opaline glass centerpiece bowl represents the celebrated tradition of Central European glassmaking at its most opulent and refined. Measuring a grand 12 inches wide by 7 inches tall, the bowl is crafted in luminous milk-white opaline glass, its creamy translucent body serving as a perfect canvas for lavish hand-painted embellishment. Dramatic cobalt blue cartouche panels encircle the exterior, framed by applied silver-toned scroll and ribbon garlands draping elegantly across the body. Between the cartouches, exquisite hand-painted botanical sprays bloom in vivid cobalt, green, and white — rendered with the confident, skilled brushwork of a Bohemian enamel master. Lush trailing vines and foliage complete the naturalistic composition with characteristic Bohemian charm. The flared open rim and cobalt-accented foot ring lend architectural drama, while the piece retains its original separate cobalt blue glass liner plate — a rare and remarkable survival.
