#112418D • $4,500+ Mahogany-veneered pedestal sideboard/partners’ desk with inset leather writing surface and brass swan-neck pulls
Part of Historic Manor Downsizing Auction (timed auction by Prime Auction Solutions)
Status: Sold
A substantial Georgian-style mahogany-veneered pedestal desk or sideboard-form partners’ writing table, designed with an expansive rectangular top inset with three leather writing panels (the leather appears to be tooled and gilt-ruled within a molded surround). The façade is organized as a full-width frieze of drawers above a central cupboard compartment with paneled doors and interior shelving, flanked by deep pedestal drawer stacks to left and right, each fitted with brass swan-neck bale handles and escutcheons. The casework presents as mahogany with figured/crotch-style veneer fields to the drawer fronts and door panels, framed by cock-beading and stepped cornice-like molding. Turned, reeded front corner elements articulate the pedestals, while a broad plinth base and molded skirting lend an architectural, executive presence. Interior drawers appear dovetailed with light wood secondary. In the tradition of English partners’ desks—furniture intended to provide balanced storage and a generous writing surface—this example reads as a formal library or office piece with strong period-revival detailing.
