#7174 • Carved Black Marble Horse-Head Bust on Stepped Marble Plinth, 23"H
Part of Historic Manor Downsizing Auction (timed auction by Prime Auction Solutions)
Status: Sold
A boldly modeled carved stone horse-head bust, executed in dark, highly polished marble with contrasting white veining, presented on an architectural, stepped plinth of matching material. The sculpture is conceived in the round, with a strong, classical profile and alert ears; the mane is rendered in deep, rhythmic gouge work that catches light against the otherwise glossy planes of the face and neck. A bridle is articulated in relief, complemented by a rope-like element draped and coiled around the throat in a manner evocative of equestrian tack, lending a sense of movement and ceremonial presence. The tiered base, with crisp bevels and broad bands, gives the object the character of a small monument, suitable for desk, library, or mantel display. The overall treatment aligns with decorative neoclassical revival horse busts commonly produced for interior ornament. Size: 18 x 9 x 23"
