#7168 • Carved Mahogany Chippendale-Style High Chest on Frame with Ball-and-Claw Feet, 74"H

Part of Historic Manor Downsizing Auction (timed auction by Prime Auction Solutions)

Status: Sold

A substantial Chippendale-style mahogany high chest (tall chest of drawers) on a separate base, executed in the Philadelphia tradition and distinguished by a strong architectural cornice and crisply carved detailing throughout. The upper case presents a graduated arrangement of drawers—three short drawers over two medium drawers and four long drawers—each fitted with matching pierced brass batwing-pattern bail handles, giving a cohesive Georgian-inspired façade. The case is framed by carved and turned corner pilasters and finished with a deep projecting crown molding over a pierced and carved frieze. The lower stand is designed as a companion chest base, with a long drawer above two flanking drawers and a central carved panel, all set over a bold openwork apron centered by a shell-and-scroll cartouche. The whole is raised on cabriole legs terminating in ball-and-claw feet, a hallmark motif of the Chippendale vocabulary. Overall, the piece is conceived for formal bedroom or library use, offering generous vertical storage while presenting a richly modeled silhouette associated with Anglo-American Georgian taste. Size: 38 x 19 x 74"
