Part of Historic Manor Downsizing Auction (timed auction by Prime Auction Solutions)

Status: Sold

A Chinese-style polychrome porcelain jar-form table lamp, likely late 20th century, painted in the famille verte palette with figural vignettes and architectural motifs. The ovoid ceramic body is decorated in overglaze enamels with a narrative court or scholar scene: robed figures rendered in bright greens, blues, and iron-reds beneath a stylized hanging lantern and angular pavilion elements. The shoulder is banded with floral sprays and a diaper-like blue border, while the reverse presents a bold ornamental panel of cobalt-blue rockwork framing scrolling cloud forms in iron red, creating a strong contrast between narrative and abstract decoration. The jar is professionally converted for use as a table lamp, fitted with a black lacquered cap and tiered base in the Chinese taste, and surmounted by a brass column terminating in a ball finial. The lighting assembly comprises a twin-socket cluster with pull chains, designed to throw light evenly beneath a shade and to read as a decorative object even when unlit. Size: Approximately 28" H overall
