#7046 • Pair Bing & Grøndahl Danish Porcelain Accordion Players, 9"

Part of Historic Manor Downsizing Auction (timed auction by Prime Auction Solutions)

Status: No sale

This delightful pair of Danish porcelain figurines depicts barefoot young men seated on wooden barrels, each playing an accordion in a relaxed pose. Both pieces bear the Bing & Grøndahl factory mark with the three towers of Copenhagen, along with model number 1661 and painter's marks on the undersides. The design, attributed to the B&G sculptors of the early-to-mid 20th century, captures a charming maritime folk tradition with the seated musicians in casual attire—one in a white shirt with dark shorts, the other in a gray shirt with blue trousers. The figurines display the characteristic soft underglaze palette of blues, grays, and flesh tones that made Copenhagen porcelain famous worldwide. Each accordion is rendered with careful attention to the bellows and key details. The high-gloss finish enhances the sculptural modeling of the figures' relaxed postures and downcast expressions as they concentrate on their music. A matched pair in apparent good condition with no noted chips or repairs. Each approximately 9" H. Bid per piece, final bid x 2
