Part of Historic Manor Downsizing Auction (timed auction by Prime Auction Solutions)

Status: Sold

An elegant carved hardwood torchère or plant pedestal stand, executed in a classical revival taste with a circular dished top above a flared frieze carved in repeating leaf lappets. The top presents a contrasting central roundel framed by a dark line-inlaid band, a treatment commonly found on display stands intended to visually center a pot, bust, or small sculpture. The support is formed as a tripod with elongated, down-swept legs terminating in tight volute scrolls, the knees enriched with acanthus-leaf carving that continues into the sculpted central stanchion. A shaped triangular platform and molded plinth base provide a strong architectural finish and visual weight, while the openwork leg profile keeps the silhouette light and vertical. In period interiors, stands of this type were used as jardinière supports, torchères, or sculptural pedestals—practical furniture designed to elevate and frame decorative objects in halls, parlors, and conservatories. Size: 15" x 15" x 54"
