An exceptionally fine Louis XV style two-drawer bombé commode of impressive proportions, masterfully crafted with exquisite floral marquetry inlay and gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts. The shaped serpentine marble top in warm cream and tan tones with characteristic Breche d'Alep veining crowns the dramatically curved bombé case. The front features two serpentine drawers adorned with an extraordinary display of floral marquetry depicting abundant chrysanthemums, dahlias, and foliate sprays in satinwood and contrasting exotic veneers against rich burled walnut. The interior drawer faces reveal additional delicate marquetry detailing of ribbons, swags, and foliate motifs. The case is lavishly embellished with finely cast and chased gilt bronze mounts throughout, including foliate espagnolette figures at the canted corners, rocaille-form drawer pulls with floral swag drops, acanthus knee mounts, and scrolled sabots protecting the elegantly curved cabriole legs. The scalloped apron is centered with a foliate bronze cartouche. This commode exemplifies the sophisticated craftsmanship and decorative exuberance of the Louis XV period, with its graceful bombé silhouette, high-quality marquetry execution, and abundant ormolu ornamentation marking it as a particularly fine example of the form.
