Exceptional Large 19th-Century French Aubusson-Style Tapestry Panel - Grand Floral Urn & Songbirds 7' x 9'8" Woven in the French Aubusson tradition of the 19th century, this large wall hanging presents a grand neoclassical composition centered on a campana-form urn brimming with roses, peonies, and hollyhocks. Pairs of songbirds hover among swags and tassels, while architectural cartouches and scrolling strapwork frame the scene. A deep raspberry foliate “damask” field and borders picked out in eau-de-nil, cerise, and gilt-ochre lend rich contrast to the pale central ground. Executed as a flat-woven wool tapestry and finished at the sides with a decorative galloon, the panel reads with impressive color and scale, suitable as a portière or a commanding wall tableau. Areas of patchwork could benefits with additional stiching added. 7' × 9'8"
