Part of $15 Million Great Falls Downsizing Mansion Online Auction (live auction by Prime Auction Solutions)

Status: No sale

Exceptional Oversize Painting presents a bustling European streetscape executed in oil on canvas and attached within an ornate multi-layer frame. The composition centers on a colonnaded building and a tree-lined plaza populated with pedestrians, flower sellers and horse-drawn carriages; wet, reflective pavement and glowing shopfronts convey a damp, atmospheric light. Visible impasto brushwork and delicate flecking capture foliage and figures in a palette of muted blues, warm ochres and rose highlights. Piece is hand-painted and shows a decorative brass nameplate engraved “E. Payes” on the lower frame. Frame details include a wide burl-wood outer surround, gilt and carved inner liners and metal bead trim, all enhancing the period street scene presentation. Inside Frame: 61 x 47" Frame: 78 x 64"
